Google Digital Training: An Avenue to diversify the Nigerian Economy.

“Diversifying the Nigerian economy: enabling youth through digital skills training” was flagged off today. Thanks to the present administration and google Inc.
Yemi Osinbajo the Nigerian Vice President expressed optimisms   that Nigeria can overtake India in the market for technology and innovation talent. During flag-off ceremony of Google Digital Training for Youth Empowerment at the State House, Abuja, the Vice President who was seen taking selfies with the potential digital CEOs made some heart felt revelation of the possibility for the Nigerian youths.
According to him, the administration will continue to explore creative ways at empowering Nigerian youth.
He said: “We intend to create a reservoir of human capacity in technology that can be exported internationally.
Nigeria can lead India as a market for technology and innovation talent.
“This year, we are establishing technology hubs across the country, two super hubs in Lagos and Abuja and six regional hubs in the six geo-political zones. In partnership with several major technology companies, the hubs will be fully resourced with infrastructure and capacity building tools.
“Each hub will be designed to produce relevant innovative technology, solutions to a wide range of business, commercial and government problems. For example, alternative energy solutions, creative technology, public services delivery in health, education and government processes, import substitution etc.
“Several major technology companies are partnering with us in the provision of infrastructure and opportunity in the hubs. Also starting this year, we have budgeted for the training of 65,000 young Nigeria s in hardware and software services and more sophisticated software hardware such as animation.
“This would mean that we would be building more local capacity to build, assemble hardware and to write innovative programmes. We will also be focusing on technology for media and entertainment,” he added.
While the empowerment initiative flagged off on Today  is targeting 400,000 Nigerian youth at a start, Osinbajo said that the government is determined to give every opportunity to younger generation to ensure they excel with the use of modern technology.
He said that a special initiative on innovative technology and start ups and presentation of prospective participants have already been done in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.
“This Friday, 30 of the best start up ideas will be exhibiting their inovations at the Presidential villa at the first Annual Aso Villa Demo Day.
“The 30 winners will be arriving here in Abuja today and they will participate in an innovation growth camp for the next two day.
“And this is why what Google has offered to do in collaboration with the Federal Government, the Google training for youth employment, the training of 400,000 young people is a monumental contribution to the national plan and in particular to economic development.
“Everyone of the 400,000 young men and women to be trained is a potential creator of facebook, Uber, Jobberman, Iroko Tv or something that we haven’t even imagined yet. The exciting prospect of this training is that it unleashes the creativity and innovation and the boundless imaginative of the most productive segment of our society, the youth.
“For any student today I think that we must appreciate that this is the age of multi-tasking.
You cannot just be an economist, an accountant, a lawyer or a graduate of international relations, or mass communication or performing arts and just remain that way.
Multi skilling is crucial today, multi-tasking is the order of the day.
“You can’t just be one thing. You must learn to be a man of affairs, a versatile operator not a mono skill graduate,” he added.
The Vice President showed off, his internet Conversance when he said that there are many opportunities as practically anything can be learned online today.
“All of these business reviews and business journals, many of them are free online.
Everyone has a right to be rich. age is not a barrier to great wealth as we have seen from all these example of great men and women who have done so many incredible things.
He said that there are also important opportunities for those in the performing and film arts, which goes beyond actual performing to effective management of talents, their programmes and projects.
“Today every good concept needs well trained managers who understand how the industry works and how to leverage the entertainment value chain.
“Isn’t it time for `uberification’ of Nollywood, to make actors and actresses especially new talents more visible to film makers?” he queried
“The exciting thing is that anyone, including the microbiologist can be the next innovator in the entertainment industry. Such is the versatility of multi-tasking. a new market for the performing arts but also for any other taker is animation skills for movies, education, entertainment and advertising.
“It is a new growth area and it is attracting talents from every discipline including the fine arts, architecture, software writing, screen play writing and others in film production generally.
“One thing that I want to assure you today is that we are all together determined to make sure that we give every opportunity that is possible to the youth in technology and innovation. I can assure you that the next few years are going to be great indeed,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant to President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefilure said that the program is part of government’s sustainable development goals’ commitment which would be replicated in every state to lift the Nigeria youths from poverty.
Ministers of Communication, Adebayo Shittu; Sports, Solomon Dalung and Labour, Chris Ngige harped on the importance of the training to youth development.
They promised to key into the move for positive development of the youths.
Shittu said that his ministry will work with the Ministry of Education towards including the digital training into the educational curriculum at all levels.

Single and Struggling Ladies.

It's over the place, how men are terrible and same. I almost sympathized with women, for their inability to keep a man. Until it came to me. Are men that bad? Is the women folk always the victim of out of love affair? I guess not.
Dear ladies, Firstly, if you are still struggling to find a husband at an old age it's simply because you are looking for a perfect man. Something might be wrong with you. you say to yourself that 'All men are liars, cheats and useless, but let’s be honest here, which is more likely? Is it that there’s something wrong with about 70 million African men OR there is something wrong with one African Woman? You Ladies certainly will not get into a blissful matrimony if you are always hanging out with your so call girlfriends every night at a beer palour or bar waiting for a guy to buy you a drink & take you home afterwards. Drinking yourself to stupor every Friday & Saturday night does not exactly make you look like marriage material. You want a man?...invest in a good wardrobe & dress responsibly not like a mad person.
When a man comes to you, smile & be polite, even if he does not fit your mental image of your kind of man. Ladies, stop coming to relationship with a chip on your shoulder. If you believe all men are bad & all men are Dogs, then it will become a self fulfilling prophesy. No man is perfect! You say you can't marry a blue collar guy like a mechanic or carpenter, Now if a carpenter was good enough to marry Mary mother of the Jesus Christ, why isn't he good enough for you? Do not focus on where a man is now, but look and see where he has the potentials to be. What’s the point of being beaten to a pulp every night by some rich, good looking and non caring man? Do you want a future where you will sit in a traffic in your BMW X6, GUCCI sunglasses covering your swollen eyes and u look out of d window and see a happy couple in a keke napep holding hands and laughing like newly wedded couple even after 12 years of marriage. Please don’t fake pregnancy or get pregnant to trap him, e no deywork again joor! Your perfect man is out there, believe, work ƞ pray and you will get him...!
Best of luck !!!

Is Abia cursed?

Fool me ones shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
The Drama of Pre and post electoral court appeals may well have given everyone involved a time out,to recuperate and fight on.
A State already saddled with bad governance, now sluggered with the burden of an inattentive governor. As Teachers are owed, environmental conditions a menace, and public figures unresponsive to situations. The case of Abia is liken to the rich man, who gave out his farm to a caretaker. He expressed his desires to the farmer to take care of the entire farm, and in return be rewarded with a personal  farms and crops to farm on. Months went by and the rich man visited his farm. His farm has rather been abandoned and unkept. He waited out the season and vowed never to have any dealings with the caretaker. By next season, the caretaker came to him, in humility and recommended his apprentice to take care of the farm. Listening to the caretaker, he released his farm to the young apprentice, even when renowned farmers were willing to work on his farm for nothing in return.
Half into the season, he went round and discovered that his farm was the most unkept and unyielding farm in the entire village.
Abia and Abians are architects of their own castle. And as it is said as a man makes his bed, so he must lay on it.
The case of the past regimen left a soar taste in the mouths of Abians, but it didn't stop them from feasting from same dish of soar grapes.
I believe a man must never be fooled twice before he can learn.

Stamford Bridge erupts.

For one thing been a Chelsea fan last season was nothing to write home about. Consecutive defeats, and no international game next season, manager and player fallout. Chelsea was in disarray, something we had hoped will never happen. Well fast forward to this season, yesterday's game against West Ham, gave all fans something to cherish, and looks like the old Chelsea we all know, capable of snatching late minute victory.
A good penalty Goal from Eden Hazard a player we are hoping is back at his best and that very late Costa 20 yards strike was enough to erupt Stamford Bridge with estacy as manager and fans dance. Conte does begin positively. If we go by what we saw yesterday, passion is back on the bridge plate. The players were out to win, everyone seems at his best or near best. Ivanovic making those attempts, Terry reading opposition moves before they make it. A solid midfield, good attacking spells. In all West Ham were lucky.
The referee did make some bad calls though, but when Stamford Bridge dances, we all know it pains England FA. We will see how the season goes.

United Zalatans to the Top.

Why hasn't Zalatan won the world best?
A goal in over 3 different league debut and an incredible scoring record and you will think FIFA has something against Sweden.
Of course united cruised to the top table, with goals from Mata, Rooney, and the magical Zalatan. When he is there,  it's all about Zalatan, and I can't help verb his name.

Purpose driven Rats.

In 1997, a group known as the APOPO saw potentials in  rodents with a sense of smell as keen as a dog’s but dismissed as pesty vermin — or a potential meal.
Since then rats from Tanzania have been used in detecting landmines, but these African giant pouched rats have now been taken to further their live saving worth by speeding up tuberculosis detection.
It’s all in the nose, says the Belgian non-governmental organisation APOPO whose NGO has been based in Morogoro in Tanzania’s eastern highlands since 2000
It is recorded that about 83,000 landmines have been neutralised in Africa and Asia courtesy of the rodents.
The biggest obstacle as stated by the director of APOPO has been the negative perception that people have of the rat.
Anti-Personnel Landmines Detection Product Development - recently branched out in 2007 to use rats for TB detection by exposing sputum from potential patients to the rats. Africa accounts for most of the people who die of TB every year and untreated carriers can infect dozens of others, making speedy detection essential.
Today, more than 29 hospitals in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro send the Morogoro lab sputum samples. Another dozen clinics in the Mozambique capital Maputo send samples to an APOPO center opened in that country in 2013.
The NGO says it has detected 10,000 missed TB cases, identified by workers like Oprah and Violet, whiskers bristling as they move along a row of test tubes.
“The big advantage is how quick the rats are. They can go through 100 samples in about 20 minutes, and this is what a lab technician will take four days to do,” said Cox.
During TB detection, rats are presented with a mix of negative and positive samples, the latter decontaminated for safety “but the smell remains”, said training director Haruni Ramadhan.
When a rat identifies a “true” positive, it is rewarded with a banana-peanut butter mixture. “We can only reward the rat if we are certain it is right,” Ramadhan said.
The negatives are not necessarily suspicious but become “suspect”, and subjected to further testing, if the rat reacts.
“Thanks to the rats, we have increased (TB case) detection rates by 40 percent” in the participating clinics, said Cox — citing the same figure given by Dr. Magesa.
APOPO currently employs 222 rats — 108 for demining and 42 TB detectors.
The World Health Organization has not, so far, endorsed this TB testing but APOPO, funded mainly by donations, won’t stop there. Buoyed by its success, future ideas include trying out rats in detecting cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

A famous victory for Hull City! Who needs a permanent manager

First season defeat for the champions.
It’s the first time the defending champions have lost on the opening day of the season since 1989-90. Hull were brilliant , and Mike Phelan should be smiling home with  the manager’s job. Leicester created enough chances, they didn't capitalize on.

APC Leader Calls Buhari a Total Failure

Useni Mairiga on Tuesday described President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as a total failure. Useni is a factional Chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Kano.

He stated in a local radio station, in Kano's, that Buhari has betrayed the confidence of the Nigerian masses, who had voted him into power.

He expressed worry that after one year of the Buhari-led administration in power, poverty level in the country has assumed an unprecedented dimension.

He further lamented the situation where those around the President fail to tell him the truth and advise him on the present day realities.

And went on to advise the President to stop deceiving and bamboozling  Nigerians with lies that the nation has  no money, while on a monthly basis the Federal and State Government’s continue to enjoy a boost in their allocations.

Bankers to declare assets.

CBN - Central Bank of Nigeria has directed all bankers in the 19 deposit banks in the country to declare their assets immediately.
In a letter sent to all the banks through the Banking Supervision Department of the CBN, the apex bank mandated all bankers to declare their assets through a court affidavit. A move not unconnected to the administrations campaign against corruption.
So far only 3 of the 19 deposit banks have had their staff comply with this directive.

Polio case... A set back for Nigeria.

Barely Two years into the Buhari era, the Nigerian government has reported two cases of polio - the country's first in two years.

Report has it that two children had been paralysed by the disease in the north-eastern Borno state, a part of Nigeria where Boko Haram militants are active. Polio vaccination centres in the country have also been attacked by Boko Haram Islamist militants.

A UN immunisation programme in Nigeria has had to contend with rumours that the vaccine was a plot to sterilise Muslims.

The development is seen as a major setback for the country, being on track to be declared polio free in 2017.

Northern Youths against attack on Buhari

Since Buhari's ascension, Nigeria has been divided into several fractions, the for, the against and the neutrals. Recently Northern Youths released a speech on how they would no longer stand by and watch Nigerians attack the President's image. The Niger Delta Security Watch Organization, NSWO, responded by criticizing the threat  saying that former President Goodluck Jonathan was called all sorts of names during his tenure and nobody raised eyebrows.i
President of the group, Dickson Bekederemo, in a statement, said: “We strongly condemn the irrational position taken by Northern youths under the auspices of Northern Youth Leaders Assembly, who threatened not to tolerate any further attack on Buhari's image because he has done so much to put the nation on the path of progress.
“From their utterances, it appears they have forgotten that President Buhari is the President of Nigeria and not the President of Northern Nigeria, and so cannot be free from criticism. May we remind them that when President Jonathan was on the seat of power, he was called all sorts of names, ranging from clueless, incompetent and drunken fisherman.
“The pace has been set. President Buhari’s case will also not be different, as Nigerians from all walks of life have the right to criticize him."

Super Come back for Los Blanco Boys

Real Madrid steals the day in an all Spanish supercup against Sevilla.
Sevilla the Europa League winners lost Unai Emery who masterminded their three successive cup triumphs - to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, replacing him with ex-Chile coach Sampaoli but looked set to claim another European crown, leading 2-1 deep into stoppage time.
Although lacking their super hitters, Zinedine Zidane's boys played one goal down against a ten man sevilla team until late into the game and won, thanks to Ramos late equalizer, which serves as a restitution for Konoplyanka's spot kick, and Carvajal last minute goal that denied viewers an extra 30 minutes of pure Spanish football battle.
This will be Zinedine Zidane's second trophy as Los Blancos boss.

Nigerians Set Continental Records in Olympics

This Olympics seems to set sight on Nigerians.
Nigerian athletes in Rio de Janeiro  Olympic Games created records of their own, not enough to be on Guinness Book of records but one  that will be cherished in a longtime to come.
Three Nigerians with records are two table tennis stars, Segun Toriola and Aruna Quadri as well as Rower, Chierika Ukogu .
The Toriola  who is 41 years had his 7th appearance in the current Games, equaling the table tennis record. This has made him the most capped African Olympian.
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri set another continental record after the 2014 ITTF star became the first African to reach the quarterfinals of men’s singles event at Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Ukogu on the other hand, qualified for top classification in the rowing event in Rio, she is Nigeria’s first ever rower in the Olympics to have got that far, placing fifth in the third quarter final of the Women’s single sculls after clocking a time of 7:54.44 secs.
She will now participate in the semi finals C/D 1 event on Wednesday. This is her first ever appearance in the Olympics.

The 53 suitcase saga of 1984

Pretend It's 1983 again, Buhari is declared Head of State, after the coup that displaced Shagari. He is said to be a corruption war lord and would set Nigeria on the Right path. Yes he began the great cleansing, like he will in the future (2014) but with sentiments. A Wikipedia and vanguard report states it so
"In 1985, a cross section of politicians were convicted of corrupt practices under the government of General In 1985, a cross section of politicians were convicted of corrupt practices under the government of General Muhammadu Buhari, but the administration itself was only involved in a few instances of lapsed ethical judgment. Some cite the suitcases scandal which also coincidentally involved then customs leader Atiku, who later became Vice President in 1999, and was indicted for various acts of corruption. "The 53 suitcases saga arose in 1984 during the currency change exercise ordered by the Buhari junta when it ordered that every case arriving the country should be inspected irrespective of the status of the person behind such. The 53 suitcases were, however, ferried through the Murtala Muhammed Airport without a customs check by soldiers allegedly at the behest of Major Mustapha Jokolo, the then aide-de-camp to Gen. Buhari. Atiku was at that time the Area Comptroller of Customs in charge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport."

Reintroduction of WAI Brigades, my opinion against.

We are going back to 1983! Buhari takes Nigeria 33years back to his first tenure where he  introduced the brigade.

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, on Monday, relaunched the War Against Indiscipline, WAI Brigade, in Abuja, saying in this era of insecurity, violence, kidnapping, and other forms of social vices, the role of the Brigade in civil intelligence gathering cannot be over emphasized.

As Abari recalled the WAI Brigade was a brain-child of President Buhari, who as Military Head of State in 1983 established the Brigade, to instill discipline among Nigerians, as well as fight endemic corruption.

There is no evidence up to date to prove that WAI Brigade ever brought a  reduction in crime, all we can remember is the harassments and popular "bulala", the humiliations Nigerians had to suffer, no one should forget that the brigades men filled the streets and had with them "koboko" and would lash out on any and every Nigerian for even dropping waterproof on the ground.
There is no difference then and now, Buhari's war is for those against him - remember the 53 suitcase saga of 1984? It's still unclear till date. If he were so pure why is the air uncleared of his involvements?
Nigerians should brace up for the worst nightmare of the new Buhari era.

Jamb withdraws Admission List

As at yesterday it became known that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission it earlier sent to universities and other tertiary institutions.

The announcement was contained in a statement by the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday in Abuja. He said  the decision was to ensure that universities continue to be  responsible for selecting candidates in consonance with the admission criteria of merit, catchment area and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education,  and referring them to JAMB for confirmation.

“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions,” he stated.
Reports has it that the Federal Government had clarified its ban on Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and the general admission procedures, saying it “does not in any way affect the statutory role of the senate of any university or the academic board of any tertiary institution conducting its admissions.”

Adamu had made the clarification in a statement by the Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations) in the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Ben. Bem-Goong.
He said the clarification became necessary “following conflicting reports in the media over the roles of universities and JAMB in admission under the new dispensation.”
According to him, the role of JAMB is to conduct the UTME, compile the list of candidates whose scores meet the cut-off marks (180 and above) and send same to the universities.

Tomato price crash! How Real is it?

How Real is the news that tomato has crashed so low every family can afford a basket?
It's all over the place that Tomato price crashes from its heights to the amazement of buyers.
A small basket of tomato, sold for N25,000 in May, following the invasion of  Tomatoc Ebola also called "tuta absoluta" in lots of tomatoes farm, is said to now be going for a whooping N800 in Kaduna!!

The Tomatoc Ebola affected the crop in most parts of the north-west, notably Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano states.

As a result, the basket prices jumped from the range of N800-N1200 to between N25,000 and N40,000 at the height of the crisis.

Story has it that At the Line Dogo (Rail Line) tomatoes and vegetable market in Kaduna on Saturday, it was a beehive of activities.

Buyers could not believe their eyes as tomato prices  crashes to a two-month low.

Abass Mai Tumatur, chairman of the tomato sellers, told TheCable it was a “pleasant relief” for everyone as tomato is now available and in large quantities.

Mai Tumatur: Things are getting better

“Tomato scarcity is nothing new, but it was made worse this year  by the invasion of the moth,” he said.

He said the insects mutate more during the dry season but don’t survive during the rainy season.

“The rains coupled with the efforts of government have helped tremendously in making tomato available,” he said, praising the government for the “timely intervention”.

He assured the public that the fear is gone now “and hopefully for good”.

Farmers were left stranded and helpless as the moth ravaged their farms and left destruction across the farming community, making a pot of soup as expensive as gold.

Hotels and restaurants, in particular, faced a nightmare as the crisis also shot up the price of canned tomato paste.

Many were not aware of the reasons for the scarcity as frantic efforts were made to to address the situation.

Nasir el-Rufai, the Kaduna state governor, declared a state of emergency and dispatched officials to Kenya to find ways of tackling the ravaging insects.

The cost of the destruction in the state, according to el-Rufai, was close to N1 billion.

Audu Ogbeh, minister of agriculture and rural development, also commissioned experts to find solutions to the disease outbreak “as soon as possible”.

The insect originated from South America around 1912 and has spread to other parts of the world.

Reports suggest the insect came to Africa through Republic of Niger.

And Everyone says Buhari is trying......I bought tomatoes yesterday at same price of 4pieces at 400 in Akwaibom. Does it mean I was cheated? I think this is a cooked up story from the top.
