Nigerian government extended Eid-el-Fitri because the moon could not be sighted. The President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has said the extended public holiday declared by the Federal Government for Eid-el-Fitri cost Nigeria over $1.88 billion.
Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye said this on Thursday while addressing newsmen, he explained that “the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Nigeria was worth $481.07 billion in 2015, having fallen from an all time high of $568.51 in 2014 and by analysis $1.88 billion goes with public holidays.
After he acknowledged how important public holidays is to Nigerians, he further went on to urge the federal government to be mindful of declaring holidays, especially now that the economy is not buoyant.
